2nd MarLEN call invites project proposals to advance waterborne zero emission technologies

The second MarLEN call (2026) invites project proposals to advance waterborne zero emission technologies. Projects should include industry partners, with SMEs encouraged to take part.
The objectives and scope of funding are:
- Aims to strengthen European cooperation, address research gaps, and promote innovation in maritime transport
- Focus arean include alternative fuels, electrificaton, energy efficiency, ports and green corridors.
The application process consists of a two-stage process; the submission of a lead proposal and national approval. Eligibility requires consortia of at least two entities from different countries, with project duration of up to three years. Proposals must include detailed sections such as objectives, consortium, work plan, and exploitation strategy. Submission is via the MarLEN portal.
Although the UK does not have specific funding allocated to this 2nd call, applicants from the UK can still apply as self-funded businesses.
MarLEN (Maritime Low Emission Network) is a partnership of European ministries and funding organizations responsible for funding RTD in maritime technologies from 9 European countries. MSE International is one of the UK partners in the project. The network includes representatives from national and regional public authorities competent for public maritime research programmes and support policies.
The objective of MarLEN is to strengthen the European Research Area in waterborne research by coordinating and developing synergies between national and regional maritime research programmes and policies in line with the aims of the partnership Zero Emission Waterborne Transport (ZEWT). The activities include exchange of information and knowledge among national programme owners and programme managers as well as the implementation of distinct joint activities.
