The INdIGO Interreg project is developing fishing gear with a controlled lifespan that is also biodegradable in the marine environment. MSE International are one of the UK partners in this project which is also defining a strategy to improve the recycling of fishing gear at the end of its life to promote the circular economy.

Several updates have recently been issued from the project which can be viewed here, including more information on the research going into developing a circular economy for fishing gear through design, collection, recycling and prevention. The University of Plymouth and its partners will be speaking in more depth about this at the GRIPS 2022 online event; Global Research & Innovation in Plastics Sustainability, taking place 15th -17th March 2022 online.

Updates are also available on the work going on by project partner Cefas into the ageing tests on the new biodegradable fishing lines; click here for more information.

And finally the Citizen Science part of the project; Fish&Click has brought out a new educational tool to help the recording of discarded fishing gear for the project. Find out more here.
