The new Transport Secretary, Anne-Marie Trevelyan, recently announced £60m funding for the third round of the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition (CMDC).

This is the largest government R&D investment announced to date to help the maritime sector transition towards Net Zero operations and builds upon the success of CMDC1 and CMDC2 both of which were oversubscribed.

For the first time under the CMDC multiyear projects are eligible to receive funding allowing large scale demonstrations of clean maritime technology to take place. Projects are expected to run between April 2023 – March 2025 and the deadline to apply is by 9th November 2022.

Innovate UK KTN, along with funders the Department for Transport and delivery partners Innovate UK, held a competition briefing event on the 30th September which can be viewed here.

CMDC3 is split into 2 strands and full details can be found via the links provided:

Strand 1 – focuses on large scale demonstration of either on-vessel technologies or infrastructure projects. Projects under this strand have expected costs between £1m-8m.

Strand 2 – focuses on large scale demonstration of combined vessel and infrastructure projects. Project costs for this strand are expected to be between £2m-10m.

This funding competition closes 9th November 2022.
