'Safety' for battery-electric vessels is not only about high-performance batteries. A systems approach considers charging, awareness of the risk of running out of energy at sea - along with the ability to prevent and fight fire.

With safety always front and centre, the NEXT GEN Marine BATTERY workshop will highlight effective solutions for workboats, ferries, patrol craft, military vessels, SAR, wind farm support, super yachts and unmanned craft. With focus on sub 24m vessels, topics are also relevant for 25m to 100m and the ports they operate from.

Besides 100% battery-electric vessels, high-performance batteries are used as part of the power and propulsion system in hybrid and hydrogen fuel cell vessels. Batteries are also used for onboard energy and hotel loads, replacing some traditional ICE generator tasks. As different applications need different batteries, it is essential that marine learns quickly from hard lessons and incidents on land.
