APRE (Agency for the Promotion of European Research) and the Waterborne Technology Platform, within the MarLEN project, are organising the 3rd Joint Mobilisation and Mutual Learning Workshop which will be dedicated to Ferries, on Tuesday 27th October 2026, from 11.00am to 1.00pm CEST via Microsoft Teams.

The workshop is part of a series of joint events with the Zero Wmission Waterborne Transport Partnership (ZEWT) Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) and its implementation pathways, covering different ship types and supporting the transition towards zero-emission waterborne transport.

Following the first and second workshops focused on Inland Waterway Transport and Short-Sea Shipping, this third edition will explore challenges, opportunities and solutions related to ferries.

The workshop will open with a presentation of the MarLEN project (of which MSE International is a partner), and the objectives of the Zero Emission Waterborne Transport Partnership (ZEWT), followed by best practices from the ferries sector, which will share experiences, barriers, and success factors with the audience. In the final session, participants will engage in an interactive co-creation exercise aimed at exchanging perspectives and analysing challenges, solutions and opportunities within the policy, economic, technological and social dimension of ferries. The contributions from this section will help define and inform operational recommendations for the sector.

The event will be held online, in English and is aimed at representatives from ferries and shipping companies, ports, investors, research centres, industries, start-ups and solution developers working on sustainable innovation in maritime transport.
