Marine South East is assisting the European Space Agency 'I-Port' demonstration project with end-user engagement.

Led by Aimes Grid Services I-PORT consists of space and terrestrial assets to support the optimisation of freight transport through European ports.

Building on the earlier I-PORT feasibility study a functional I-PORT system will be used to demonstrate the concept's effectiveness. The demonstration phase will assess how well I-PORT addresses requirements already identified by participating ports and terminals, port community system providers, shipping lines, truck drivers and hauliers.

The I-PORT system utilises four modules to improve freight flows through ports by reducing inefficiencies caused by late arrivals, incorrect documentation, traffic congestion and delayed vessel arrivals. The modules are:

* Tracking
* ETA and Route planning
* Job management and electronic documentation
* Dynamic vehicle booking system
